NEW BEDFORD — John James DeCicco, 81, of New Bedford, died at home, Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, after a long illness. He was the husband of Yvonne M. (Landry) DeCicco; they were married 53 years.
A lifelong New Bedford resident, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Roseangela (Solometa) DeCicco. He was a communicant of St. Kilian Church.
He was a baker for Giusti Baking Company for 42 years until retiring.
Mr. DeCicco was a World War II Army veteran and served during the Philippine Campaign. He was the recipient of the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with Bronze Service Arrowhead and the American Theater Campaign Ribbon.
He was a lifetime member and past commander of the Poirier Post 3260, Veterans of Foreign Wars; a member of the American Legion Post 0459 of New Bedford; the Military Order of Cooties; and the Exercise Tiger Association. He was very active in veterans affairs and was an avid marcher in all parades.
Survivors include his widow; a son, Michael J. DeCicco of New Bedford; a brother, Henry DeCicco of New Bedford; two sisters, Frances Conti of Florida and Marion Patterson of Fairhaven; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Annie DeCicco, Louise DeCicco, Joseph DeCicco, Salvatore DeCicco and Pasquale DeCicco.
His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Kilian Church.
Arrangements are by the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd.
